Purpose:

The Mission of the St. Paul Educational Trust: 

The purpose for which the St. Paul Educational Trust was formed includes the following:

  • Aid in the support of present and future educational and instructional programs at St. Paul on the Lake Parish
  • Subsidize the cost of Catholic education for needy students who meet certain qualifications
  • Financially support other related educational projects at St. Paul on the Lake Parish
  • Engage in other charitable, religious and educational activities.

St. Paul Educational Trust Board

The Educational Trust is overseen and administered by a trustee board comprised of nine parishioners and the pastor.  While the bulk of the administrative work is done in committee, the board meets formally three times a year.

Thomas McGann - Chairman Emeritas

As a founding member of the St. Paul Educational Trust, Tom has been involved with the trust since its inception in 1973.  Tom earned an engineering degree in 1957 and an MBA in finance in 1963, both from the University of Detroit.  Now retired, Tom spent his career at Comerica Bank as an Investment Advisor and Portfolio Manager in the Bank Trust Department.  Tom “enjoys watching the consistent growth of the Trust and increasing the disbursements to St. Paul Catholic School.”  He is the proud father of four daughters, all of whom are graduates of St. Paul Catholic School.

Kathleen Conway - Chair

Kathleen has a BA degree in Journalism and Philosophy from Marquette University,  Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  She has worked in advertising, magazine publishing and public relations for more than 30 years.  Most recently she has been the Director of Public Relations for Racing For Kids, a national children’s charity.  Before that she served as Director of Marketing for Dominican High School and Academy. 

Kathleen is a life-long member of St. Paul Parish and a graduate of St. Paul School, having gone there from first through 12th grades.  She and her husband Mike have four grown children, all of whom attended St. Paul School from kindergarten through 8th grade graduation.  She presently has five grandchildren in the school. 

Kathleen joined the Educational Trust board in 1985 and currently serves as chair.

John Capuano - Vice Chair

John is a Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager in the Troy, MI office of U.S. Trust.  He serves as the senior investment counsel for U. S. Trust’s private client relationships in Michigan, for whom he designs, implements and monitors sophisticated and customized investment programs.

Prior to joining U.S. Trust John served as an Investment Specialist at J.P. Morgan where he developed comprehensive investment solutions designed to preserve and build clients’ wealth.

John earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with Distinction from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst, Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Financial Planner professional.  John is a member of the CFA Institute, CFA Society of Detroit, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.

In addition to the St. Paul on the Lake Education Trust where he serves as vice-chair, John is on on the National Ski Patrol at Otsego Club, and the Turning Point of Macomb, Finance Committee.

Jennifer O’Donnell - Secretary

A native of St. Louis, MO, Jennifer attended Catholic grade school and high school before earning a double major in International Business and French from Xavier University.  She also holds a Masters in International Business from St. Louis University.  Jennifer is currently the Director of Pharmacy and Business Development for Healthy Living Medical Supply.  Jennifer and her husband, Kevin, have three children, one of whom graduated from St. Paul Catholic School and two who are in middle school.  Jennifer says she was “honored to be part of the trust, and to be in a group of like-minded people who have a similar passion in keeping Catholic education vibrant for generations to come.”

Ellen Gormley - Treasurer

Ellen has been part of the St. Paul Educational Trust for the past 10 years.  She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hillsdale College and a Masters of Taxation from Walsh College.  Ellen is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and is the Director of Federal Income Tax Compliance for Ally Financial, Inc.  Ellen finds working with the trust rewarding because she can “work with a talent group of stewards to support families who have made a decision to educate their children in the Catholic faith.”  Outside of work and volunteering, Ellen enjoy spending time with her husband Paul and their four children.  Their youngest recently graduated from St. Paul School.

Kristin Mixon - Assistant Treasurer

Kristin earned her Bachelor of Science in psychology from the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., where she was also an NCAA Division 1 Athlete.  Upon graduation, she served in the U.S. Army for eight years as a helicopter pilot and officer. After her Army career, Kristin earned her Master of Business Administration degree and Real Estate Development Certificate from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.  Kristin currently works as a consultant with Plante Moran Real Estate Investment Advisors (REIA), conducting financial, feasibility, and market analyses of potential real estate transactions and development projects. Kristin also works with Plante Moran Cresa’s (PMC) Project Management Team to help K-12 clients plan, source, and execute capital improvement projects within their districts.

Having attended St. Sebastian Catholic School in Dearborn Heights and Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Kristin brings an appreciation and enthusiasm for the value and future of Catholic education within the Archdiocese of Detroit.  After moving around quite a bit during the first 10 years of their marriage, Kristin and her husband, Russ, feel so blessed to have finally found a home at St. Paul.  They have three children, two of which are current St. Paul students as well as one future Laker!

Mary Conway Scott - Public Relations

Mary joined the St. Paul Educational Trust in 2014 to help facilitate the marketing and public relations aspect of the trust.  Mary is a graduate of St. Paul Catholic School.  She continued her Catholic education in high school at Academy of the Sacred Heart, and college at Marquette University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications.  As a marketing and communications professional, Mary has spent her career marketing consumer-facing services and products in a variety of industries, from skincare to retail and medical.  Mary and her husband, Bill are pleased to continue the family’s tradition by sending their daughter and son to St. Paul’s as a third generation Lakers.  She also have a young son who will eventually attend St. Paul as well.

Bill Hanigan - Marketing

Bill is the Regional Manager at Lord, Abbett & Company LLC, an independent, privately held asset management firm .  Bill’s work involves engaging with financial advisors to enrich existing relationships and create new relationships within the southeast Michigan and northwest Ohio regions of the United States and to promote Lord Abbett products to meet the investment needs of their clients.

He is a graduate of Wilkes University, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania.

Bill and his wife Cindy have four sons, the youngest of whom is a student in St. Paul School

Brian McCabe - Investments

Brian is the Managing Director of AUM Strategies, sourcing affordable insurance solutions to individuals and businesses preserving Detroit’s historic buildings and homes.  A licensed real estate professional, Brian is also an alternative investment representative specializing in start-up and under-recognized liquid alternative managers.  Experience includes hedged equity, global alternative credit, alternative income, fund-of-funds and more.

Brian is a graduate of Michigan State University James Madison College, with a degree in International Relations.  He and his wife, Margaret, have three daughters.
